The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tries the hearts. Proverbs 17: 3
Be assured and understand that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience. James 1: 3
You know when we read scriptures like the ones above when things are ok, or going good. We tend to read over them quickly. However when trouble knocks on our door like it does for everyone these verses take on a whole life of their own. The newest trend in "church-dom" is "follow Jesus and your life will be better and easier". However if we believe that, then the earliest Christians including the writers of the bible must have been doing it all wrong! Even Christians have bad days.. bad weeks, bad months and even bad decades. In times of "testing" (what the bible calls it) it really is God bringing us through these things. But why?
A faith that's not field tested isn't worth having! God sends things our way to make us strong, to make us evaluate what we put our hope in! Imagine you "come to Jesus" and put your faith in your church, denomination or even your local pastor. These things fail, you might even have faith in your family life, jobs, your doctor or even your own health. These things all rust, rot and die.
Placing your faith in times of trial in Jesus is the ONLY way to survive the trial! No matter if the thing you prayed for happens or not! Trust in Jesus because we have promises like
Romans 8:28, And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. That may mean "suffering well" for His glory. If your health fails.. suffer well.. if you lose your job suffer well.. if possessions are all taken/stolen suffer well.. if your family is lost or deserts you suffer well... know your hope is in Jesus and him alone!
Listen to what Peter said, before he was crucified for his discipleship and love for Jesus..
1 Peter 1:18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
Peter suffered well.. no matter what kinda day we have, season or part of life we are walking through lets "suffer well" and bring glory to Jesus as he is our Hope and nothing in this world can even come close to Him!
