It was a bitter cold night, my 9 month old had just dozed off as my wife and I left the restaurant. Knowing that we’d be home very soon, and that Levi (our 9 month old) hadn’t rested much that day. I thought to myself, what a perfect time to go see Christmas lights with the love of my life and best friend, Sheri. A chance to hold hands and enjoy blinking lights and remember the blessings we have gotten the in last year. Our son snoozed in the back seat with his warm “shayna-made” hat on, and with my wonderful bride holding my hand we set out on an adventure that would ever change the way I looked at things.
Setting our green explorer west, the night was dark and cold. Yes we saw a few lights here and there, some looked like they had simply been thrown on bushes, fences and front porches without a second care.. But then, it happened.
We came to the end of a road, all alone at the end near a stop sign, we saw flashing lights. So bright I even remember saying outloud.. “there must be a wreck ahead”. Then we saw it, it was as if it were a rock concert. 2 homes had lights galore. However, they blinked in such a manner it didn’t make sense. Sheri and I sat, amazed at the craftsmanship.
Snowflakes, trees, manger scene, the works! However then our eyes noticed that a sign in the yard read, “tune in to 107.5". So I quickly hit the knob on our radio, and sure enough the lights danced to the very music beaming in on the radio. However I soon figured out that the houses where broadcasting the signal itself as the family wished its watchers a “merry Christmas!”
These weren’t Christmas lights, this was an event!! We sat for nearly 30 mins watching the music make the lights dance. Sitting in our warm car, I can’t remember a time where I was impressed let along lead to write a blog about it later! This is the story of my research, now for the conclusion.
The time that went into the creating of the Christmas lights, the time it took to broadcast the radio signal and the time it took hang each light and not to mention the programing it took to make each section light blink is proof there is a God. I’d insult you if I told you the Christmas lights evolved from rail-road lights that where piled in the yard from over 10,000 years ago. You’d scoff and laugh if I told you the lights were mixed with gases and the right amount of proteins where present when the radio signal crawled out of a glob of goo to begin broadcasting.
These fairy tales that we believe that there is no God just goes against physics, nature and the laws of reality. I never met the designer of the Christmas lights, but I can see the proof of his existence. Any thinking mind can put two and two together and begin to look at the puzzle and know their has to be a creator. Of all the claims of people who claimed to be God and all the religions of the world, there is only one who claims to save men from sin. That religion is Christianity and it’s founder Jesus Christ is the one making the claim. No other religion deals with the issue of sin. This young man claimed to be God and was killed because of it. The Bible is HIS story. From Genesis to Revelation. After He was killed, He rose to life again, seen by over 512 eye witnesses. The Bible teaches His plan to pay for the sins that caused wrath to be on our heads! How He redeems His people from Sin and death. How He created all things for Himself. This maker of all things, I’ve never met personally, yet, but I can see the result of his work in my heart. I can see the light that shines in my life. I can see how he designed me for a purpose to preach the gospel, to be a good, and faithful husband, to love my children and raise them in the fear and admiration of the Lord.
So those little blinking lights that where designed, created moved me in my heart, and reminded me once again of my Devine creator. My father, the one who I am reconciled to by the death of His only son Jesus. Once I was his enemy, now at peace, so as the song goes “peace on earth” should be sang the loudest of those who are not at war with God any longer. Finally peace with our God and Father because Jesus came in our place to take the price of sin on Himself.. Merry Christmas!
